What are points?

FIFA points – the real-life virtual currency of FIFA

FIFA points aren’t a hard concept to grasp. They are the virtual in-game currency of FIFA that you could only purchase by using real-life money. It is imperative to understand that, unlike coins, FIFA points cannot be obtained through playing the game.

The only places where you can get your hands on FIFA points are the FUT Store, your console’s store, and from trusted retailers. FIFA points prices of course vary depending on how much you wish to buy. Generally speaking, 100 points go for around $1 with minor discounts for major quantities. For example, the maximum amount you can buy at once – 12,000, will cost you $100 instead of $120.

One of the perks of FIFA points are that they carry over, so you don’t lose them once you move to the latest version of the game. For example, the FIFA 20 points you’ve purchased will still be there when and if you decide to play FIFA 22. That is if you have any left in your bank of course.

What can you spend FIFA points on?

FIFA points are used exclusively for two things – purchasing FUT packs and paying FUT Draft entries. The former is quite obvious – you pay for a FUT pack, you get a FUT pack, that’s it. As for the FUT Draft, you’re presented with a choice to either pay your entry fee via FIFA points or FIFA coins. We’ll go over the FUT Draft in-depth in the second part of this article, but broadly speaking it is a FUT mode that holds various rewards based on how many games you win.

As we mentioned earlier, FIFA points aren’t difficult to understand. You buy them, you use them in two very specific ways and that’s that.

Or is it? Well, if there’s going to be a second part of this, the answer is obviously no. For the why behind the what, tune in for the continuation of this article, coming to your browser soon!

What are coins?

Coins and how you use them play an essential part in every successful FIFA Ultimate Team story. Here, we’ll go in depth on how to quickly stack up coins and master FIFA’s in-game currency.
Let’s begin with the absolute basics. What are FIFA coins? Well, as mentioned, they are the in-game currency with which you can buy individual player cards on the market or packs from the store, aka obtain players for your FUT squad. You can find out more about buying and trading cards, as well as opening packs in the FUT tutorial here. So, how do you get your hands on the precious goods? Well, FIFA 20’s entire makeup revolves around coin transactions, so it’s fair to say that literally everything could bring in some cash flow. What you need to remember is that you cannot buy FIFA coins with real money! You can only get them through playing the game and via the trade market. Real money can buy you FIFA points, but that’s a topic for another time. Now that that’s out of the way, here are the most effective ways to make some sweet FIFA dough.

The focus falls on three game modes: Squad Battles, Division Rivals and Squad Building Challenges. These modes hold high-end rewards, including coins, packs and in the case of Division Rivals – Champions points. Amass enough Champions points and you’ll be granted access to the Champions Weekend League where you can receive even bigger awards.

Squad Building Challenges are…well, exactly that. You’re tasked with doing something and if you do it, you get something in return. SBCs are easily the hardest of the three modes to accomplish anything in, but when you do, you’re rewarded in a fitting manner for all of your trouble.

Squad Battles are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Due to the player being able to choose his opponents and difficulty level, it’s much easier to win that way. Of course, the prize quality drops as well.

Division Rivals surely holds the title of most engaging of the three. In addition to the regular coins and packs that you get for winning, you also gather Champions points. Gain 2000 of these and you’ll be granted a pass to the Champions Weekend League where you compete against the world’s best for some truly squad-altering packages.

Equally important for your coin budget’s well-being is what you do on the market and how you spend the coins you’ve obtained. Search the web and every coin tutorial will tell you the same thing: don’t buy expensive packs. Packs are random, ok, you might get something useful, but more often than not, you won’t.

Instead, try to stick to Bronze and Silver packs and see what you can sell on the market, what you should keep for your squad or what you could keep for now and sell at a higher price later on. Similarly, keep an eye on the cards that go for sale. With an eye for a bargain and some luck, you might strike gold. Finding such bargains is the main key to building a bank once you’ve established a solid foundation through playing.

Throughout the year EA organizes different events in FIFA Ultimate Team. These range from FUT Birthday, St. Patricks Day to Halloween, Team of the Year events and others.

These events usually result in new player cards, the pack offers or SBC’s, which strongly influence the market. Some events like the Team of the Year or the Team of the Season also cause the market to collapse, which makes your whole team worthless and you lose coins. Here is an overview of the events throughout the year:

It is advisable to inform yourself about the individual events. If a market crash is expected, you can earn additional coins by selling your team early at high prices and buying new at low prices for the market crash.

FUT Web App

The FUT Web App is a mandatory application for every trader and all those who want to become one. It allows you to access your Ultimate Team while on the go. By using a keyboard, the Web App also offers advantages in trading by making it easier to search for players and mass bidding on the exchange market.

What functions does the FUT Web App offer?

The Web App offers you numerous advantages that you should definitely use as a trader. The following functions are available to you:

  • Access to the transfer market
  • Management of your active team including substitutes
  • Access to all objects in your club
  • Open Packs from the Store
  • Do SBC’s
  • View daily and weekly goals

How can I access the Web App?

You can access the Web App using any Internet browser.

In order to be able to access the Web App with the cell phone, EA Sports has introduced the so-called Companion App. This app is available for IOS as well as for Android.

Getting started

Watch the awesome video opposite by @MattHDGamer showing what to do as he explains. Everyone starts off with a very average team. Returning players from previous FIFA get free packs. There is a web app which starts week or so before the console release. On there you can see what your starter team is and open any of the free packs. You can trade on the web app as if you are on the full game. Create squads, buy and sell players and even do SBCs. If you login to the webapp daily before the game is released you receive daily gifts which are just small packs or coins.

If you ordered a version of the game where you get packs these are separate and will be available when you play on your console. Although the game only gives you 1 or 2 of the packs per week available to open. You do NOT get all packs to open as soon as you start the game. Also you don’t actually have to open a pack because it is there. Maybe let them build up and open them later in the year.
